Meeting Minutes

Pikes Peak Water Garden Society
September Club Member Meeting
13 Sep, 2012

September’s club meeting was opened by President Ron Bissonnette at 7:15PM at Mt. View Church of Christ.

There were 16 members present at this month’s meeting.

The club had several shirts which had not been selling, so any member present was welcome to have them for free. Those shirts that were left are going to be donated to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for the monkeys.

Dick Throckmorton gave the financial report. The club had $240.27 in total deposits, $189.41 in expenses, and $142.14 in outstanding outgoing checks, leaving $2674.17 in checking. The clubs saving account had $.26 in deposits and $0 in withdrawals, leaving $3113.69 in saving. The clubs available total funds are $5645.72. The Financial Statement is available for all members to review.

Tom Taylor spoke about the upcoming workshops. This coming Saturday (9/15) will be the workshop at Sedalia, and the following Saturday (9/22) will be the workshop at the Union Printers Home. He encouraged everyone to come to either or both workshops to learn or impart wisdom as to what it takes to get a pond ready for winter.

Jean Susemihl suggested that we try spreading Sodium Per Carbonate into the Union Printers pond. This non-toxic chemical bonds to the debris and creates oxygen, thereby lifting the debris to the surface where it can be skimmed off. She and Mike will take over a handful and try it in the pond.

Ron motioned and Bev Kratzer seconded that the floor be opened for nominations for Board Members. There were no new nominations, and since there were only 16 members present Dick Throckmorton motioned that we table the nominations until next month’s meeting. This motion was seconded, so we will once again open the floor for nominations next month. Ron reiterated that anyone is welcome to attend the board meetings which are held at 6:30PM at the East Library on the Tuesday following the club meeting. Nominations for this evening were closed.

Bev Kratzer volunteered to be our Sunshine Lady and Plant Sale Coordinator again for next year.

Jean Susemihl commended Dick Throckmorton on his excellent newsletter.

Robert Lammon presented a power point presentation about winterizing ponds which included questions and answers.

Next month’s meeting will be our yearly BBQ. The BBQ will probably be coming from Bird Dog BBQ, so be sure to attend. Bring a desert to share if you can.

Door prizes were then drawn - Jean Susemihl and Tim Evans won Fertilizer Tabs, Bob Oatman and Wayne Hume won a mouse pad.

Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Oatman
