Pikes Peak Water Garden Society
June Club Member Meeting
14 June, 2012

May’s club meeting was opened by President Ron Bissonnette at 7:15PM at Mt. View Church of Christ.

There were 46 members present at this month’s meeting.

Dick Throckmorton gave the financial report and plant sale results to members. The club had $2,982.78 in total deposits and $792.09 in expenses, leaving $2,635.10 in checking. The clubs saving account had $.26 in deposits and $0 in withdrawals, leaving $3,112.91 in saving. The clubs available total funds are $5,748.01. The Financial Statement is available for all members to review.

The plant sale generated $2,640.00 in receipts with $414.50 in expenses, leaving a profit of $2,225.50 which was more than last year.

Dick also discussed a new product that he had found called “Rock on a Roll”. This is a sheet of material that simulates rock and can be used to cover exposed liner. Dick plans to cover his skimmer covers with it using expanding foam to add a lumpy surface.

Ron congratulated Bev Kratzer for her management of the plant sale, which went off without a hitch. She volunteered to lead this event again next year.

We still need a Pond Tour Organizer which will be on July 28th and 29th.

Ron took a poll to see how many people sustained recent hail damage. Several people held up their hands. Ron mentioned that the hail had hit his yard very hard, but that he hadn’t notice any issues with his fish. The only thing he did after the hail storm was to aerated his water violently.

Robert Lammon then introduced Steve Sader who gave a presentation covering the redesign of their pond which began in May of 2011 and was completed in early 2012. Steve showed several slides showing the complete process which added bottom drains, straight sides with no plant shelves, changing the volume from about 8,000 gallons to about 20,000 gallons, and several other features. The great deal of labor that they put into their pond upgrade was very apparent, but the final result was very impressive and well worth it.

Greg Gutierrez asked if anyone was having problems with their Koi sitting on the bottom of their pond with clamped fins. He mentioned that he was having this problem, as were several members of the Koi club. The reason was not apparent, but adding ProForm-C seemed to help.

Door prizes were then drawn for the following lucky members.
Lucille Redding – Underwater spotlight
Tina Coppin – Solar LED Hummingbird Light
Larry Fenton – Solar LED Hummingbird Light
Robert Lammon – Koi Clay
Kazuke Kreidel – Book
John Jackson – Book
Tom Taylor – Book
Bob Winker – T-Shirt
Jack Conroy – T-Shirt
Virgil Redding – Book
Wayne Hume – T-Shirt
Loren Yukawa – Book
Betty Bissonnette – Book, which she gave to Connor Coppin for drawing the winning tickets.
Greg Gutierrez won a $15 gift certificate to Chili’s from the electronic newsletter drawing.

Tom Taylor then once again mentioned the need for a Pond Tour Coordinator and for members that are willing to put their ponds on the tour.

The meeting adjourned at 8:50PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Bob Oatman
