will be the first meeting of 2009. Suzy Oligmuller will talk about invasive and native plants. Each person in attendance will receive a plant start.

The Pikes Peak Water Garden Society meetings are held every 2nd Thursday from April to September.  Most meetings start at 7:00 PM and wrap up around 9:00 to 9:30 PM.

This year our meetings will once again be held at the Mountain View Church of Christ located at 1080 East La Salle Street.  This is at the west end of Constitution Avenue on the southwest corner.

Enter through the east door on the north side of the church.

Club Meeting Minutes
April 9, 2009

The first club meeting PPWG for 2009 was opened by President Ron Bissonnette at 7:35PM at the Mt. View Church of Christ. There were 75 members that attended.

Greg Gutierrez, Board’s Member-at Large briefed members of the upcoming workshops that need support from club, members. Union Printer’s Home is scheduled for 2 May, Sacred Heart Retreat in Sedalia is on 9 May and the Plant Sale workshop is scheduled for 28 May.

Greg briefed the members that he bought five 44lbs bags of Azoo Growth Plus Koi food that they can purchase as cost from him. The cost per lbs was set a $1.38.

Steve Carson talked about this year’s 20th Anniversary Pond Tour. The plan is to have 20 ponds, one for each year to celebrate the 20 years of PPWGS existence, over the last two weekends in July. There will be with 10 ponds scheduled for weekend. If we do not have enough members that want to participate in this year’s tour, those members that had their ponds on last year’s tour are eligible to participate again this year.
Steve also briefed that this year members have an option to elect to receive their monthly newsletter on-line instead of receiving one in the mail. The online version will be in color and an email notification will be sent out notifying that is available for viewing. Those members who elect to do this will be eligible for a monthly drawing for a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Dick Throckmorton briefed the members of the current financial status for the club. The end balances for checking, savings is $271.20, $2063.67 respectively with a total club funds of $2334.87. The financial statement is available for all club members to review.

The main guest speaker for tonight’s meeting was Suzy Oligmueller owner of the Water’s Edge, an Aquatic Plants and Service business. She discussed the various water plants that fare well in the Pikes Peak region. She covered such plants that are tolerant of shade, in water streams that include marginal’s, floaters, and oxygenators. She also advised members of plants that can be or are very invasive in ponds and streams. She donates a large selection of plants that the president gave away to members as door prizes.

The meeting concluded at 8:55PM.
