Pond filtration including 'do it yourself'

Our May meeting will focus on pond filtration. Their types and functions. How large should your filter be? Types of filter media. Filter maintainance. Do it yourself filters with examples and demonstrations.

The Pikes Peak Water Garden Society meetings are held every 2nd Thursday from April to September.  Most meetings start at 7:00 PM and wrap up around 9:00 to 9:30 PM.

This year our meetings will once again be held at the Mountain View Church of Christ located at 1080 East La Salle Street.  This is at the west end of Constitution Avenue on the southwest corner.

Enter through the east door on the north side of the church.

Club Meeting Minutes
12 June, 2008
PPWGS Club meeting was opened at 7:35PM by Vice-President Jerry Hunter at Mt. View Church of Christ.
Mary Buchner gave a financial statement report to the members. The report is available to all members for viewing. She also reported that the plant sale gross sales of $5331.56 and that the final figures will be out in a week or two.
An announcement was made that long time PPGWS club member Joseph Gagnon passed away earlier this month.
LaNell Williams thanked all members that help out at the workshop as well as the sale.
Kirk Messinger volunteered to take on the Liberian duties for the club.
The main subject for the meeting was Pond Design. Jim Lamphear was the guest speaker. Jim showed various slides on pond design techniques with boulders, waterfalls, streams, and plantings (according to Jim’s preferences). His design concept includes scale, transition, flow, balance, and believability.
Jerry talked about next month’s Koi sale. The club will get the Koi about three weeks before the sale so that they can be quarantined and a health check-up. He also announced that he can obtain a high quality Koi that is valued from $1000 to $3000 providing that enough members were interested in participating in a raffle for the Koi. Enough members showed interest in participating.
