Meeting Minutes

Pikes Peak Water Garden Society

September Club Member Meeting Minutes from September 13th, 2018.

The meeting was held at Mountain View Church of Christ in Colorado Springs CO.

There were 24 people in attendance.

Bob Oatman opened the meeting at 7:05pm.

Bob welcomed everyone. There were no new faces in the crowd. He then displayed the Board of Directors for 2018.

Tonight, was Board Elections Night. Bob Oatman and Allen Burbidge will be continuing their 2-year commitment. Tom Taylor, Shirley Weaver and Tom Barger will have completed their commitment at the end of this year. Four people were nominated, and four positions were open. Tom Taylor, Shirley Weaver, Dean Beukema, and Bev Kratzer were nominated and elected to the board for 2019.

Shirley Weaver presented her Treasurer Report. We presently have $3930.44 in Checking and $2684.98 in Savings, with $45 Cash on Hand. That makes total club funds of $6660.42.

Bob discussed the upcoming Fall workshops at the Union Printers Home and the Humane Society. He asked that people signup on the signup sheets.

Bob noted the Midget Market Table. Several items were displayed for sale, trade, or for free.

Dick Throckmorton offered his Koi to the club members. He will be moving to Florida for the winter and is looking for good homes for his fish. Contact Dick if you want some nice free fish.

This evenings presentation was “Preparing Your Pond for Winter”. Bev began the presentation by discussing how to get your plants ready for winter. Which to simply trim back, which to sink to the bottom, and which to bring inside.

Bob then discussed “Winter Water Quality”. The steps that you should take to help your fish make it through the winter, and what to do next spring.

Bob then discussed covering your pond. He showed several pictures of different pond covers and discussed the benefits of a cover.

The presentation then went to “Caring for Your Fish”. The main point here was that you should switch to an easy to digest wheat germ food at 60 degrees, and to not feed your fish when the water gets below 50 degrees.

Tom Taylor then highlighted a few additional winterizing items.

Door Prizes were then drawn.

Next month’s meeting will be the last for 2018 and our Annual BBQ Picnic.

The meeting was concluded at 9:20 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Bob Oatman
President
