Pikes Peak Water Garden Society
May Club Member Meeting Minutes from May 11th, 2017 at 7:00PM
There were 32 members present.
The meeting was held at Mountain View Church of Christ in Colorado Springs CO.
Bob Oatman opened the meeting at 7:10.
Bob welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2016 and passed the mic around to some new faces in the crowd. He then displayed the Coordinators for 2017.
Shirley Weaver presented his Treasurer Report. We presently have $1243.90 in Checking and $2651.37 in Savings, and $50 Cash on Hand. That makes total club funds of $3945.27.
The first two workshops of 2017 at Union Printers was discussed. On April 22nd four of our guys pulled back the liner on the east end shelf and put sand under it to bring the liner back up to the capstones. On May 6th 10 people helped completely clean out the pond and repot about 125 lilies.
Bob then discussed Why We Do the Workshops. Without the Union Printers workshops we wouldn’t have any lilies to sell or a place to sell them.
Bob then went on to discuss upcoming event such as the plant sale, Humane Society pond planting, pond tour, and Koi auction.
Bob introduced Suzy Oligmueller. Suzy discussed the results of the Noxious Weed meeting. Parrots Feather and Water Hyacinths are still ok, but Yellow Iris may soon be added to the list. Suzy then began her presentation about “Adding Interest to Your Ponds Edge” with a series of pictures showing fun items that can be placed around your pond. Suzy had brought several examples of floating fairy islands and she explained how she made them. She also explained how to get moss and plants to grow on various items.
Bob then lead an open discussion covering several topics such as website issues and protecting your pond from hail.
Door Prizes were then drawn and won by the following. Rich Gibson, Randy Childers, Mary Bucker, Shirley Weaver, Sheila Evans, Lanelle Williams, Lee Martin, Dick Williams, Bob Oatman, Linda Burbidge, and Bev Kratzer. Suzy had brought several plants that anyone could then have.
Next month meeting will be an Alumni Meeting and Ice Cream Social. We intend to invite as many X PPWGS members as we can and present a history of the club.
The meeting was concluded at 9:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Oatman
President
