Sixth Club Meeting and Election of Officers

The Pikes Peak Water Garden Society meetings are held every 2nd Thursday from April to September.  Most meetings start at 7:00 PM and wrap up around 9:00 to 9:30 PM.

This year our meetings will once again be held at the Mountain View Church of Christ located at 1080 East La Salle Street.  This is at the west end of Constitution Avenue on the southwest corner.

Enter through the east door on the north side of the church.

Meeting Minutes

Pikes Peak Water Garden Society
September Club Member Meeting Minutes from September 8th, 2016 at 7:00PM
There were 18 members present.
The meeting was held at Mountain View Church of Christ in Colorado Springs CO.
The members that were nominated for the board were; Tom Barger, Shirley Weaver, Tom Taylor.
A motion was presented that they join the board, it was seconded and unanimously passed.
Continuing board members are Bob Oatman, Michelle Ditto, and Rich Gibson.
No Treasurers Report was presented.
The fall workshops include;
9/10/16 Sacred Heart Retreat
Meet at 7:30 at Denny’s on North Academy.
9/24/16 Union Printers Home
Meet at 9:00 at the Union Printers Home.
The program topic was “Preparing You Pond for Winter”.
Bev discussed preparing plants and cutting them back before the water gets too cold, no more fertilization, water lily care, and winterizing aquatic plants.
Bob discussed not leaving your waterfall running, keeping the pond clean, placing a net over the pond, and water changes, performing small water changes all winter.
Adding pond salt to the pond was discussed.
.1% = 8lbs/1000 gal with plants
.12% = 1lb or 1 cup / 100 gallons
Pond salt beefs up the slime coat on fish.
Use solar salt, non-iodized, fine grain, don’t buy non-caking.
Using Malichite Green will help treat fish fungus.
Turn off your water fall when the temp drops.
Keep a hole in the ice to let harmful gasses get out and oxygen get in.
Don’t feed when temp is less than 50 degrees.
