April Club Member Meeting Minutes from April 14th, 2016 at 7:00PM
There were 29 members present.
The meeting was held at Mountain View Church of Christ in Colorado Springs CO.
Bob Oatman opened the meeting at 7:04.
Bob welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2016 and passed the mic around to some new faces in the crowd. We have printed business cards with information about PPWGS that anyone can have and distribute to anyone that might be interested in our club.
He then introduced the Board of Directors and Coordinators for 2016.
Dick Throckmorton then presented his Treasurer Report. We presently have $1209.72 in Checking and $2649.48 in Savings. That makes total club funds of $3858.20.
The first workshop of 2016 – Union Printers – was discussed. The scheduled date of April 16th is rescheduled to April 23rd due to the expected snow on the 16th. We plan to do a complete pump down to replace the water which is very green and opaque due to all the goose dropping. Tom Barger has obtained a water meter which can be attached to the fire hydrant to fill it back up. This will be a big job to completely clean out the pond and repot so many lilies so every volunteer we can get will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully we will have a warm weekend.
The second workshop at the Sacred Hearts Retreat has been cancelled. Most of the lilies have grown out of their pots so very few need fertilized. We will still have the fall workshop to clean out all the lily growth but the spring workshop isn’t necessary.
We are trying something a bit different this year to promote our club. Michelle Ditto will be presenting information about us at Phelan Gardens on April 23rd at 11:30am and Summerland Gardens on April 30th at 10:00am. She has prepared a PowerPoint and she would appreciate any support she can get. So drop by and help promote our club and learn from the other speakers that will be present.
Bob then went on to discuss upcoming event such as the plant sale, pond tour, and Koi auction.
Ron Perry (who is the owner of “This Place is for the Birds”) gave a presentation about his property, store, birds, bird seed and bird houses. He then answered several questions. His property and store is on the north side of Palmer Park Blvd between Union and Circle. He had pictures of the property from many years ago. His house stood alone on the prairie in these pictures.
Bob then lead an open discussion covering several topics such as should we start feeding our fish yet.
Door Prizes were then drawn and won by the following. Mike Price, Linda Burbridge, Jaime Larsen, Laura Kovac, Dick Williams, and Jean Susemihl.
Next month meeting will feature Tamara Kilbane (the Senior Horticulturist – Aquatics) from the Denver Botanical Gardens. She will be discussing Lotus Propagation and be available for any questions.
The meeting was concluded at 8:35pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Oatman
President
